How to choose a water tank cleaning service

Questions worth asking before you hire anyone to clean your water tank or sump, and the answers that should give you confidence.

Your water tank supplies the water your household or building uses every day, so it is worth choosing carefully who cleans it. These questions will help you compare services, including ours.

1. What exactly is included?

Ask for a clear description of the work. For example:

  • Is the tank fully drained, or is only the sediment removed?
  • Are the walls and the underside of the lid cleaned, or only the floor?
  • Where does the sediment go? Is it removed from the tank, or flushed down the outlet?
  • Is the sump included if you have one?

A good provider explains exactly what their clean includes (for example whether the tank is fully drained and scrubbed, as in a deep clean) and recommends what your tank actually needs.

2. How is the price worked out?

Prices vary because tanks vary. It is reasonable for a provider to ask about capacity, number of tanks, access and condition before quoting. What matters is that you receive a clear quotation before work starts, and that you understand what it covers.

Be cautious of a price that seems unusually low if it is not clear what is included.

3. How long will the water be off?

A provider should be able to tell you, at least approximately, how long your supply will be interrupted. This is especially important for apartment buildings, offices, schools and hotels, where the interruption affects many people.

4. How do they work safely?

Tanks and sumps are enclosed spaces with limited access. Ask how the team approaches safety, especially for sumps and large tanks. A provider who takes the question seriously is more likely to take care with your property too.

5. Will they tell you what they found?

A useful clean includes honest feedback: a cracked lid, gaps that let in debris, corroded fittings or a pump that may need attention. You should be told about these so you can decide what to do, rather than being pressured into repairs on the spot.

6. Can they handle larger sites?

If you manage a building or organisation, ask whether the provider can survey the site, prepare a written scope and plan the work around occupants. Our commercial and institutional service is built around exactly that kind of planning.

7. Is feedback from other customers genuine?

Reviews can help, but look for feedback that is specific and attributable. Be wary of vague praise that could apply to any business.
