A little preparation makes a tank cleaning quicker, safer and less disruptive. Here is what to do before the team arrives.
A few days before
Confirm the details
Make sure the booking details are right: the number of tanks, whether a sump is included, and the address. If anything has changed since you sent your request, let us know.
Find out the tank capacity
The capacity is often printed or moulded on plastic tanks (for example "1000 L"). If you cannot find it, an approximate size is fine. Just tell us roughly how tall and wide the tank is.
Tell your household or occupants
If you live in an apartment building or manage an office, give people notice that water will be interrupted. For shared buildings, agree the timing with management first.
The day before
Store water for essential use
Your supply will be interrupted while the tank is drained, cleaned and refilled. Fill bottles or containers with enough water for drinking, cooking and essential washing.
Use water from the tank
If practical, let the water level drop a little by using it normally. Less water to drain means less wasted water.
Clear the access route
Check the route to the tank or sump:
- Move items stored around the tank, on the roof, or over the sump cover.
- Make sure ladders, stairs or hatches are usable.
- Secure pets away from the work area.
On the day
Show the team the key points
It helps if someone at the property can point out:
- The main valve that feeds the tank
- The pump switch or controller (if there is a sump)
- Any outlets or valves that should not be touched
Mention any known issues
Let the team know about leaks, a cracked lid, a pump that has been unreliable, or anything else you have noticed. It helps them plan and avoid surprises.
After the cleaning
Once the tank refills, it is normal for the first water to be a little cloudy as the system settles. Run your taps briefly. If you notice anything unusual afterwards, contact us.
Safety reminder: Please do not enter a tank or sump yourself, before or after the cleaning. These are enclosed spaces and need the right equipment and precautions.
